What is the Gothia Cup?

The Gothia Cup is an annual youth soccer tournament played in Gothenburg, Sweden. The Gothia Cup is widely considered the most well known youth soccer tournament in the world, and is often referred to as "The Youth World Cup." The name Gothia Cup comes from the Latin word for the area around Gothenburg. The tournament was started in 1975 by two Swedish soccer teams, BK Hacken and Gais, along with the newspaper Arbetet. Since 1975, over 120 countries have participated in the Gothia Cup. Seven players won the Gothia Cup and participated in the 2006 World Cup, including Xabi Alonso of Spain.
The Gothia Cup Group is involved in projects all over the world. In 2006, the Gothia Cup organization opened an orphanage in Bangkok, Thailand. In Africa, the Gothia Cup Group has started schools that now have over 600 students.

First Post

Hello, my name is Jared. I have been selected to play soccer for the U.S. in the Gothia Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden. I need to raise around $4500. I am using this blog to recognize sponsors and I hope to gain new sponsors through this. I plan to enter new posts about the tournament and pictures while I am in Sweden, although entering new posts will depend on having access to a computer. I hope this is helpful to everyone.
